Located in the town of Hempstead, Franklin Square is known for its large Italian-American population and vibrant Jewish community, although initially inhabited by Native Americans. Franklin Square is also an easy commute to several prominent tourist attractions, including the Long Island Children's Museum, the Bronx Zoo, the Belmont Park race track and the Hempstead Lake Park. In addition, there are many fun-filled parks located within the hamlet of Franklin Square itself, including the Averill Boulevard Park, Eisenhower Park, Rath Park and Cantiague Park.
