Sagamore Hill
When Theodore Roosevelt went to Dakota Territory to hunt bison in 1883, he was a skinny, young, bespectacled man from New York. He could not have imagined how his adventure in this remote and unfamiliar place would forever alter the course of the nation, but the rugged landscape and demanding life he experienced there would help shape a conservation policy we still benefit from today. Like the parks and forests he worked to protect, Roosevelt’s home of Sagamore Hill has been preserved for the enjoyment and use of the general public. Weddings and other ceremonies can be held at the arbor or gazebo.

Sagamore Hill Reviews

  December, 2014
We attended an event here a while back before they closed it down for renovations. It was an incredibly cool experience! I am a history buff, so I absolutely love stuff like this. If you don’t already know, Sagamore Hill is where Theodore Roosevelt lived for a long time. It was called the “Summer White House” while he was there. We had a great time exploring the house and the grounds, and of course the party itself was great. I was really surprised that they do weddings here; I thought that you could only rent the property for fundraisers and such. The party was pretty big, which also surprised me. I don’t know what all was included in the package; I think the bride told me that they handled almost everything themselves. But I’m sure it was worth it to be able to get married at such a beautiful and special historic location! I really hope that they finish with the renovations here soon so we can get back again and take a full tour of the house. It is such a remarkable place.
