Named for owner David Gelston Floyd’s ancestral home of Brecknockshire, Wales, Brecknock Hall finished constructed in 1857. David was the grandson of William Floyd, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, but established his own success as a shipping magnate, whaling fleet owner, bank president, and legislator. Brecknock Hall was Floyd’s family residence; a recent restoration project has breathed new life to this historic jewel—Long Island’s most magnificent example of 19th century Italianate stone architecture. The transformed Brecknock is now open and available to the public as a resplendent site for weddings, celebrations, corporate retreats, cultural events and educational programs.
