I was just invited here for a party, and I had such a nice time that I had to write about it! I’d heard of the place (who hasn’t?). I can see now why so many people talk about it. It’s really quite remarkable. They have this really nice location on a hill by the water, and you can watch the boats and the waves and enjoy the sea air. They have tables outside which looked very nice. Sadly with this time of the year, we didn’t get to eat outside, but it was nice eating inside and looking out through the big windows. There was still a beautiful view. I can only imagine how nice it is to eat here during the spring or summer though, especially in the evenings. It looks like it would be even more beautiful. I really, really liked the food here. I had the scallops, which came with chickpeas. They were the tenderest, yummiest scallops I have had in my life. They just melt in your mouth, and they taste so good with the chickpeas and mushrooms. It’s a really good recipe, and different too. I’ve never had mushrooms like those before. I don’t know what type they were, but they were just really different. For dessert, they had a number of different options, but what I ended up going with was the strawberry rhubarb sorbet. I just love strawberry rhubarb pie, but I’d never seen it as a sorbet flavor before, and it was really, really yummy! I also got the Wolfer Late Harvest dessert wine, which made a perfect accompaniment to the sorbet. The flavors worked really well off each other, like they’d planned it that way, and maybe they did. This is just a really impressive restaurant, and I can’t wait to come back.
This is one of Long Island’s very special restaurants—the kind of place you want to come to all the time, but know you should save only for the most special occasions. This was actually where I brought my wife when I proposed to her. It was evening and the sun was setting over the water. You’re up on a bluff here and you have a great view of the ocean. The yard was lit up with these pretty string lights, and it was just the perfect moment. When we realized we were only going to have a small wedding, we thought it would be best to keep things simple, just us and some of our friends at a restaurant. The first restaurant we thought of was of course the Crow’s Nest. It only made sense. They aren’t open all year, so we picked a date ahead of time and reserved for our little gathering. I actually love that we did it this way, because they were really willing to work with us without constraints for planning our menu and everything. I think we got a lot more flexibility here than we would have at a standard wedding venue. So after we tied the knot, we all came here and enjoyed the beautiful views, the wonderful ambiance, and some of the best gourmet cooking you can get anywhere. Make sure you order at least one seafood platter; they do an especially great job with their scallops and their halibut. Dessert is something else they do well here. We skipped wedding cake and just went with the desserts on their menu and I am pretty sure we had a much tastier experience than any wedding cake. Don’t neglect the drink menu either, they have some fantastic dessert wines, and are more than happy to recommend pairings with their desserts. I think our plan from here on out is pretty much just to come back here anytime we want to celebrate any occasion! This is the perfect place for any date night, so we’ll be back for our anniversary dinner. You will not find a more beautiful, delicious spot for a party or even just a nice private dinner with your partner. I hope we get to eat here at least a couple times every season! Oh, also be warned they do not take reservations for dinner. So if you are planning on a party here, definitely call ahead and ask them about events. Don’t just show up, even if you have a small group. It’s worth it to get them on board with you to help you plan, even if it’s a casual thing.
