Built in 1912, Hempstead House at the Sands Point Preserve is one of the few remaining Gold Coast era mansions available for private events. Located on the 216 acre former Guggenheim Estate overlooking the Long Island Sound, this breathtaking mansion embodies Long Island's Gold Coast elegance.
Originally built for Howard Gould, the 50,000 square foot Hempstead House and the 100,000 square foot Castlegould became the home of Daniel and Florence Guggenheim in 1917. The first floor of Hempstead House features a Summer and Winter Living Room, Dining Room, Library, Billiards Room, Palm Court and exquisite Foyer with a cathedral style ceiling. Each room is architecturally unique with original woodcarvings, ceilings and custom stonework. Features include the walnut-paneled Library, copied from the palace of King James I, and carved oak woodwork from a 17th century Spanish palace in the Billiard Room.
Located just 40 minutes from Manhattan, there is no better place on the planet to celebrate and relive the Gatsby era. The Sands Point Preserve offers both indoor and outdoor options for your ceremony and reception. Whether it be a tented ceremony atop the dramatic cliff-sides overlooking the Long Island Sound, or an elegant reception inside Hempstead House or Castlegould, Friends of the Sands Point Preserve will work with you every step of the way to ensure an extraordinary event.
